Those are just a few of the accolades that decorated Totalvid’s Facebook Discussion page over the week as we held our video contest. The contest featured Dr. Tery Jory’s POISE: Strong and Sexy and Dr. Lynn’s Anti-Aging Workout. Both fitness instructors are esteemed experts in the field of women’s health and fitness, but this time Jory’s fans resolved this Video of the Week challenge. You’ll see they just call her Teri, and they want you to know – Strong and Sexy is the video to watch!

So let’s get to know Teri and the video a little better! Dr. Teri Jory is a 4th degree black belt in Tang-Soo-Do, professional ice skater, dancer, choreographer, wife, and mother of twins. She has been recognized for her work with breast cancer survivors helping them boost their quality of life during and in the aftermath of radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. Acording to Jeri’s website, poiseproductions.com, POISE is a comprehensive approach to physical and mental fitness that combines pilates, dance and martial arts. A portion of the sales of both her POISE and Strong and Sexy DVDs are given to Breast Cancer foundations.

POISE is actually an acronym that stands for:

P – Pilates, power and pelvic floor
O – Oneness of body and mind
I – Inspiration
S – Sculpted and sexy body
E – Empowered and energized

Jory, created Poise, her  physical and mental fitness program, when she realized the necessity for a disciplined, at-home regimen that would re-tone and re-sculpt the body. She experimented with varied movements and stretch combinations that reflect the essence of various physical disciplines such as pilates, ballet, and body sculpting. According to her website, Jory’s philosophy is “a belief that your mind controls a huge part of your fitness training. You must discover from inside yourself what drives your power and determination in order to commit to achieve your outside yourself goals of being fit, beautiful, and healthy.” ”Strong and Sexy” is Jory’s newest full body workout DVD demonstrating the best of martial arts and body sculpting.

Her videos are a product of a determination to sustain a healthy mind and body program after two life-changing events. One was the birth of her twins. “After my twins were born,” Dr. Jory told Totalvid, “I wan’t able to lose the weight from anything. I could run ten miles, do Pilates, and I wouldn’t lose any weight. So I just started trying different things.” The other was terrifying incident with a stalker. “After that incident, I could either roll over the let my soul die, or I could become empowered.” And empower herself, she did. She began developing a comprehensive workout routine that borrowed from her diverse background. Before being a fitness guru, Teri Jory was a professional ice skater and dancer. She also picked up Pilates and martial arts along the way, and combined all those disciplines into the POISE workout.

As for the workout itself?

“I had to keep it simple. The POISE workout is a technique that is great for beginners and people who don’t have a dancing or Pilates background, but professionals and more advanced people can also benefit from it,” Jory said in a phone interview. “Strong and Sexy”  is divided into three sections that work the upper, middle and lower body and can be done all at once, or one section at a time. Section one sculpts and builds the upper body, using forearm strikes and front punches to carve and chisel triceps and biceps, while stabilizing the trunk with martial arts stances. Section two strengthens the core to get those defined abs. Jory demonstrates elbow crossovers and hand leg criss-crosses to trim the abdominal muscles. Section three covers the lower body, using crescent leg kicks and fifth position leg burners to create fit, lean legs, hips and buns, while strengthening the pelvic muscles. Jory incorporates the three C’s into her workouts: concentration, control and commitment, and she’s inspiring to watch!
